Harrow Hong Kong pupils tackled some of the world’s trickiest diplomatic challenges at the Canadian International School Model United Nations event, held on 19 September.

At the event, pupils debated a wide range of issues, from providing citizenship to undocumented migrants, to how to solve the current economic and political crisis in Venezuela.

Some Harrow Hong Kong delegates were involved in the Rapid Response Committee, which was a challenging experimental committee that debated a fictional crisis based on real-life events.

Harrow Hong Kong’s Andrew (Y13, Sun) described it as ‘a great experience for all those involved’, with a number of others landing awards as a result of the contributions.

Daniel (Y10, Peel) and Finn (Y13, Sun) both received Best Delegate awards in their respective committees. Andrew (Y13, Sun) and Julien (Y10, Churchill) were awarded Best Speaker prizes.

Joelle (Y12, Gellhorn) was also appointed as the Chair of the Disarmament and International Security Council.

The MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations, where students role play the positions of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world global issues.
