On 21 March, Terence Lee (Y12, Peel) received an award for being one of Hong Kong’s ‘Most Promising Sports Stars’ from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong at the Samsung 2017 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards ceremony.
The Federation received a total of 122 nominations from 45 national sports associations for this year’s awards. Winners were selected through votes by the Judging Panel, the Sports Media, and the public. Other top sports stars receiving awards at the ceremony included Sarah Lee Wai Sze (Cycling) and Ng On Yee (Billiard) who had won events at World Championships and the Olympic Games.

The Samsung 2017 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards ceremony is the biggest annual sports awards in Hong Kong each year, so it is known as the Oscars for Sports unofficially.
I was nominated by the Hong Kong Fencing Association for the 2017 ‘Most Promising Sports Stars’ award. Each national sport association can only nominate one athlete each year. Indeed, I feel honoured to be put forward for this nomination recognising my performance in the 2017 Asian Cadet & Junior Fencing Championship in which I achieved two golds in the individual and team U17 category; I also finished third in the individual and team U20 category.
There were 20 other nominees in Hong Kong. All nominees were voted by the Judging Panel and the five nominees with the highest vote were awarded. I am extremely honoured to receive this award and it was definitely my favourite accolade so far. It is important recognition for all my hard work and to everyone who has helped me along my journey.
